Kim Reads Books About Things

I have but one caveat regarding this book... it seems to take a very, very long time to get going. It took over 100 pages to hook me. The writing, of course, made it worth the bit of a slog, but I was waiting for something truly big to happen. But hey, thick fantasy books are all the rage these days and it's a first-time author we've got here. A trim would've been nice, but oh well. The book, as it stands, is leaps and bounds over all but a few modern YA fantasy novels of similar length. (Graceling is probably tops for me, though I am most assuredly not the biggest fantasy reader in the world.) I look forward to the next book in the series, if there will be one. I only hope it's a little slimmer.
