There is a definite possibility that this is my favorite Newbery Honor-ed nonfiction book because I have been a "disease junkie" since I was about seven years old. (Not a hypochondriac, though I am one of those as well.) Medical dictionaries and the Discovery Health channel were my best friends. So I would probably have loved this book like you wouldn't believe back then, because it is bursting with deliciously terrifying details of just WHAT yellow fever did to its victims. Even the stuff not about the disease itself, but everything sparked by the epidemic, was interesting. That was just icing on the cake, though To put it simply, this book is quite, quite fascinating and a must for history (and science classes). It could've easily WON the Newbery, honestly. (Although I am fond of both "The Tale of Despereaux" and "Olive's Ocean"...)
