Kim Reads Books About Things

I like most books, particularly children's and YA. The fact that I am 21 does not and will never hinder this, and it shouldn't. A good book is a good book is a good book. Anyway. I'll read anything I can get my hands on if the mood suits me.

An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793

An American Plague: The True and Terrifying Story of the Yellow Fever Epidemic of 1793 - Jim Murphy There is a definite possibility that this is my favorite Newbery Honor-ed nonfiction book because I have been a "disease junkie" since I was about seven years old. (Not a hypochondriac, though I am one of those as well.) Medical dictionaries and the Discovery Health channel were my best friends. So I would probably have loved this book like you wouldn't believe back then, because it is bursting with deliciously terrifying details of just WHAT yellow fever did to its victims. Even the stuff not about the disease itself, but everything sparked by the epidemic, was interesting. That was just icing on the cake, though To put it simply, this book is quite, quite fascinating and a must for history (and science classes). It could've easily WON the Newbery, honestly. (Although I am fond of both "The Tale of Despereaux" and "Olive's Ocean"...)
