This book is a great example of a novel-in-verse relying almost entirely on its prose. While it would've been a pretty good story written conventionally, the prose, poetic down to the core, makes it transcendent. If it were written using the poetic prose but not in novel-in-verse form, it may have been too florid to bear. I don't think I've read another book that used the format so well, which makes it a must-read for those eager to see the novel-in-verse executed properly. The lovely characters and powerful, truthful story only make it better.
